SmartComms New Zealand

New Zealand pricing guide

What does an IP paging, PA or intercom system cost?

There is no single installed price because site size, cabling, speaker quantities and functionality vary. The examples below use the same pricing assumptions as the SmartComms calculator so you can see the likely order of magnitude before requesting a formal quote.

Indicative only, ex GST. Pricing is gathered from two to three independent sources and is not based on any single provider, which is why we show ranges rather than exact prices. Assumptions last reviewed 11 September 2026. See how we get our pricing.

Indicative installed system examples

Indicative school PA and paging costs

For school planning, it is often more useful to think in broad site sizes. These ranges combine different room counts, cabling scenarios and feature levels so a school can understand the likely order of magnitude before a site-specific design is prepared.

Small school

A smaller primary or similar site with roughly 6–8 teaching/admin rooms and limited shared or outdoor coverage.

$9,105 – $23,628 ex GST

Typical scope may include live and zoned paging, scheduled bells, indoor coverage, optional hall/outdoor coverage, optional emergency interface.

Medium school

A medium multi-block school with roughly 12–18 rooms, a hall, outdoor coverage and more comprehensive safety functionality.

$19,220 – $43,653 ex GST

Typical scope may include school-wide and zoned paging, bells and scheduled messages, hall and outdoor coverage, emergency / lockdown interface, optional two-way room calling.

Large school / campus

A larger secondary school or campus with 22–30+ rooms, multiple outdoor zones, large spaces, entry intercoms and broader two-way capability.

$30,190 – $74,853+ ex GST

Typical scope may include multi-building paging, bells and scheduled messages, large indoor/outdoor coverage, emergency / lockdown interface, intercom and additional control points.

What changes the price?

Network readiness is one of the main cost drivers: a site with suitable cabling and switch capacity installs for far less than one needing new infrastructure. See the network readiness checklist to see where your site sits.

Areas and endpoints

More rooms, speakers, horns, intercoms and control points increase equipment and installation cost.

Existing cabling

A retrofit with suitable network points is usually cheaper than a site that needs new data cabling throughout.

Large indoor and outdoor areas

Halls, gyms, yards and sports fields usually need multiple speakers or higher-output horns.

Emergency features

Fire, lockdown and EVAC interfaces add capability and a one-off system cost.

Two-way intercom

Room call buttons and entry intercom panels add cost based on how many locations need two-way communication.

Site access

Cable routes, ceiling access, mounting height and project constraints can change final installation labour.

The calculator asks only three things: the site situation, the areas you need covered and the capability level you want. You can refine it further if you know more, but you do not need technical knowledge to get started.
